Structured Decision-Making

Highly-experienced pilots can make critical in-flight decisions almost instantly by drawing upon all their previous experiences. But, if you don't have all those experiences, then you may need to use a more structured approach to decision-making.

This training program presents one method for dealing with in-flight decision-making using a series of simple steps:

  • Situation-Awareness
  • Diagnosis
  • Resolution
  • Vigilance

Originally developed by researchers at the Ohio State University, I have modified the program slightly and put it in a Microsoft Powerpoint format.

There are about 60 slides in the presentation, and it should take you about 30 minutes to complete.

You can download the program and complete it at your leisure by clicking on the link to the right.

If you don't have a copy of Microsoft Powerpoint, you should also download the Powerpoint Viewer.
